Thanks for valuable feedback. The need for custom data source connector support is captured in the idea for a Universal ODBC connector here. Please comment and vote on it.
While this can be easily done with Data connections, the lack of connections to custom data sources is limiting.
I think the requirement is to bring a custom SQL over and have Spotfire create an information link from it.
Actually this is possible, after an information link is created with any table, you can custome the query as you want and it will work.
