Spider chart is now available as a visualization mod example for Spotfire from the TIBCO Community Exchange: https://community.tibco.com/modules/spider-chart-mod-tibco-spotfirer
To use the spider chart mod, Spotfire 11.0 or later is required.
Enhancements would be to be able to adjust opacity and fill for inside areas. Also to move marked items to foreground.
A spider chart is much more intuitive than a line chart for showing information which is plotted over directions, i.e. where the base axis represents a full 360 degrees. A line chart forces you to split the line at an arbitrary point.
Spider chart are much more efficient to compare different products, categories with multiple specifications then histogram. On some spider we can also calculate size area to reinforce comparisons: it is oftenly requested by FSI.
Spider chart
While a Line chart can covey similar meanings, the idea that a Spider chart is that by association of ordering, it is possible to map relational information of distinct sets. Spider charts typically see a lot of use in sports (player stats) and often brought up as an ask from executives to compare multiple distinct values for strengths/weaknesses.
Actually I don't understand the value of a spider chart. You can create similar visualization by a line chart.
This chart can be used to display and compare multiple KPIs.
