Filter panel, Data Panel and Recommendations Window all have similar, partially overlapping functionality. Sometimes all 3 are open. (See attached file.) All 3 show a list of the data columns. Filtering can be done from 2 of them. Etc ... This can waste valuable screen real estate, makes learning Spotfire more difficult and generates confusion about where to go for functionality not present in all 3. I propose that we add all recommendations / filter panel features to the Application Data Panel and eliminate the other two panels.
Data Panel contains valuable information about data in columns that may be needed to make appropriate column selections in recommended visualizations panel. For example: Is all or most data in a column missing? Is there only 1 unique value in the column? What are the data values or what does distribution look like? This is why there is a need for data panel info in the Recommendations panel and the functionality for both should be merged. This will become even more important if / when we extend recommendations to modeling
