Some analysis may involve minions of rows or against a slow DB or connection. When trying to open to make updates, it could take 20 minutes or more.
Desire here is to allow a report to be opened with sample data so that it can be quickly checked.
I would envisage that the Information link would have a limit condition (Sample Data?) (ROWNUM<1000) that could be toggled prior to opening an analysis. Even if I could enable this in user preferences, so that it did not affect normal users, it would simplify complex report maintenance.
I do not want to modify the default information link, as that would affect any queries in process.
Would it be an alternative to load data for a few seconds, then open up the dxp for editing while data keeps coming in in the background with the option to stop the loading if your session doesn't require all data anyway?
To add to that, add sampling data feature with limiting rows to sample prior to data loading for data connections too. With that users will have a sort of design mode to prepare the data, ingest, and wrangle the datasets with only a portion of the data without having to load all data at once which could take really long. Once the data or reports are finalized, users can switch that off to get it into production.
Another option might be to bring in a sample of the data, e.g., 1% which would allow the user to have a better understanding of the overall data table, in case the data are ordered, and the first rows might not be representative in some way
