*Enhancement request:*
Allow users to assign own aliases, for servers, when adding the servers to the list of servers for the Professional client.
*Customer comment:*
{quote}We have a large Spotfire setup. Our current environments count is as follows: 20 Devs, 4 UATs and 4 Productions. As such Developers and Administrators are likely to be logged to a number of environments at the time as they are constantly flipping between environments. With this number of environments it becomes critical to be able to distinguish between each of them. In RBS we use DNS aliases to create user-friendly names for our environments. For instance our server name for Dev1 is stomv11228.fm.rbsgrp.net but this becomes spotfire-dev1.fm.rbsgrp.net. This sort of addresses the problem but it doesn't give users much flexibility as the administrator has to define the DNS alias for them. Also users may want to call environments in different ways. This Enhancement Request is to be able to assign an alias to each environment (Spotfire Server) so that users can define their own names for environments and can easily identify them. This Enhancement Request will go nicely along my other enhancement request (SR 421745) where the alias could be displayed on the status bar rather than the Server URL making it more user friendly as well. Kyle/David/Rahul/Kalyani: Your request is totally different from this idea. Please raise a new idea and vote for it. The first one who does it can post a comment on this idea and the others can vote for it. While being able to customise the name of the Web App name is a good suggestion there are ways around it. If you integrate Spotfire into another portal you can effectively have whatever URL you want without the user seeing any spotfire related URLs.
We also need the ability to customize the alias (/spotfire/) to other values as we were able to do in the Spotfire 7.0 and below with the web player.
