Please see that attached image. This type of chart displays the overall value for each period as well as the positive and negative change from the last period. Being able to see how many units were added and subtracted from the prior period helps to identify changes over time. Unlike the waterfall chart, this gives a better sense of overall value and magnitude of change.
Eric - I think I am not understanding what you are missing to create this kind chart? Can you please elaborate?
