Whenever we open spotfire analysis file in the spotfire analyst (Desktop), it opens up the report along with the data and it takes a lot of time even to verify few connection parameters or to view its metadata (column properties, data table source), visual layout so forth (based on the data volume the report is pulling). It would be better to have an option to open the report in design vs run mode so that in the design mode we can quickly open the report and make changes to its metadata and look and feel and through the run mode to view the report output alone.
Having a design mode would be useful for all big data exploration: when you design a chart, it may take a number of steps (e.g. when creating a heat map: select columns, rows, KPI, change aggreation = 4 steps). Each change in the chart issues a query and all of them keep running. Only the latest one is needed (see TS-I-5790) and it would be helpful to design the chart first and then hit a 'Load data' button. Could be a document setting.
For me, yes - that would solve the issue.
Would you that voted on this one agree that the issue here is that it takes to long time to get started if all you want to do is add or change some visuals? so if you could select to for example open with just some smaller sample of data it would solve the problem?
