Maps multi layer selection in feature and marker layer

We need an option to use selection tool in multiple layers at the same time. Currently, the selection is done just in the active layer. 

Our clients need the option to make active more than one layer.

    This is really important for us as a map driven organisation also. It is quite a limitation only being able to detect one layer the user has clicked on. Ideally, a map would work by detecting which layers are under where the user has clicked, or area they selected/drawn.

    I also would like to have more than one marker layer on the map.  I would like my main data, and I would like to pull in temporary comparison data to lay on top of the other layers
