A way to keep the column list (axis selector) on a visualization, expanded, instead of shrinking it into a drop-down list

Currently, the column list disappears into a drop down list as soon as you add any more than three columns, to the plot axis. 
My request is based on a personal opinion that changing this number from three to maybe six/eight or letting this number be a user controlled feature, would help with keeping the UI flexible for users that desire to have access to drag-changing the column hierarchy or even edit, with fewer clicks.
