Please revive ability to select bar chart categoric value from axis

This worked in v6.5, but not in 7.11.

We'd like to once again be able to select a categoric value displayed on the bar chart axis to highlight all rows for that value. Used to work in 6.5, but now a new popup dialog appears with global controls for the entire axis. Yes, one can draw a ROI to grab the entire bar, but it's much easier to select the value label, and not try to get the region right or add zoom sliders to get to the bar. Yes, you can select the value from the legend, but often you don't display the legend due to screen real estate concerns. 

Can you add a "highlight value" to the popup? or use a modifier key (e.g., control key) to allow this mode of highlighting???
