One of our users made the following suggestion:
There are only categorical 5 colour schemes to choose from at present (of which only 2 are multicolour) - it would be great to see some more options or some kind of "Randomise" button - this would help in cases where 2 overlapping series are randomly assigned the same colour by coincidence and the data becomes hard to read as a consequence.
Thanks Pete. We will consider it a general request for more categorical color schemes.
Thanks Niklas. Sadly, I received this comment from a user on an anonymous survey, so I'm not entirely certain what they were seeing. I believe the first part is simple enough - they'd like to see more options beyond the 5 categorical colour schemes that exist, although I'm not sure what sort of options they'd suggest (maybe it would be possible to do something similar to what PowerPoint does and include sliding scales for more colours, bright versions etc.). As for the 'Randomise' part - I'm dubious as to exactly what could be done and perfectly happy for you to ignore the suggestion! I think Spotfire's colour schemes have rather a lot of different colours before you get a clash in values - so trying to distinguish using colour likely doesn't make a great deal of sense if you're seeing clashes because you have too many categories in the first place...
Pete, thank you for contributing. I am not sure I understand the issue fully though. Would it be possible to show the issue you want to avoid in a screenshot?
