Alot of CAD and engineering software has functionality which allows users to navigate around spatial representations by holding the middle button and left mouse button at the same time, and dragging on the screen. This would save instances where ugly zoom sliders or scripting is required in order to allow efficient navigation around a chart. Particularly beneficial on a map chart where you currently have to select the other tool depending on whether you want to mark data or navigate around the map.
