The "smarter" data loader progress dialog introduced in 10.8 should minimally do what the doc says it's supposed to do. There is no mention at all of the "more details" that this dialog purports to show. It does not do anything more than the original forms-based dialog before the v10 client refresh. It does not show any detail about what link is being used, what table is being loaded, etc. It shows timestamps and very superficial info about parts of the load process. There is no way to determine the elapsed time for anything other than the entire file load. Very disappointing.
I thought that maybe more detail would be included when the contents are copied to the clipboard and then loaded into Spotfire. No again. A big disappointment all around.
Can this be fixed up so it actually does what the doc says? Else remove the doc.
thanks.
JP
Hi Thomas. Thanks for the reply. The advert explicitly states:
A smarter data loading progress dialog
The new progress dialog enables business users and administrators to monitor the data loading process. When opening an analysis file, the new progress dialog displays more details about the remaining and completed data access and data wrangling steps.
The expectation has been set. Fix the docs then, please. It has extremely limited benefit as a data load only - in practice, this only occurs at author time I think. We need to see this when files are opened, to troubleshoot issues in practice.
thanks,
JP
Hi JP! Good to hear from you and thanks for great feedback. The additional progress information is currently only available when Adding new data to an analysis. Please try this by adding multiple files as rows or columns to each other in one go. You should see a breakdown of what activities time is consumed on. You may also see that we load data in parallel and execute operations on background threads. It's of course in our direction to provide similar details and functionality also when you open an existing analysis. As always, please feel free to reach out to me directly for more information.
