Spotfire Analysis workbooks that we are using are containing many visualizations, which increases the complexity for the end user. It would be very useful to be able to attach documentation to each visualization, making the learning curve for new users less steep and increasing overall usability.
Annotations are currently the closest to this that is currently possible, but there are a few problems with this feature:
Not attached to a specific visualization
Formatting of text very limited. This limits the amount of documentation that can be written for complex visualizations before the documentation itself gets cluttered
Seems to be more useful for small notes than for capturing of knowledge
Annotation logo does not clearly show user that additional information is available
Solution:
Possible solution would be to extend the usage of the Information symbol which comes up in Visualizations automatically. If these can manually be added to visualizations, preferably including some text formatting options, this would be a clear and useable method of documentation. Please see attachment for an example/sketch of the idea!
Thanks :)
In addition, annotation (perhaps look like sticky notes on dashboards) that can be added manually to the dashboards and to data canvas would allow authors to document their visualizations and data pipelines
