Spotfire document properties is a very powerful feature with many uses. It can be used to hold column selections, and constants that affect what is displayed on a visualization axis or how a calculation is performed. It can even be used to store complete custom expressions which is very convenient if you have several visualizations that use exactly the same axis expression or the same data limiting expressions.
However one issue with the using document properties to store expressions is that the field used to edit document property values is very small. It would be great if it could be expanded to a multi-line field.
