I'd really like the idea of manipulating background colors and shading for all kinds of plots and not just by trellising.
I'm working mostly with time series data and I'd like to be able to have a scatter plot of my data colored by one column, and have certain parts of the background shaded by another column or marked rows.
As a temporary solution, I found a hacky way to do this by drawing vertical lines over a range of data points that comes from a different data table.
This would be great. I created a trellis once with 1000 well production plots, then printed it (A0) and stuck it on the wall. Then I manually marked all the wells with a certain criteria using coloured markers. It was very popular and enabled a huge amount of data to be quickly visualised.
