Better support of web services

When you need to consume data from a web service in Spotfire there are different options like implementing a custom data source, develop an Iron Python script, use an R script on your Stats server or use something like Composite or Jboss Teiid that basically turns your web service into a jdbc data source that can be accessed via an Information Link.

However all of those options need more or less development effort or even an additional component and none of them is really out of the box like a Connector or an Information link.

Would be really great and very much needed if Spotfire would support web services more natively and maybe even with different authentication methods. Such a functionality should e.g. allow also data-on-demand loading etc.

Will also add that connecting to REST API is currently possible via R/TERR as well. Here is a video demonstration: https://youtu.be/XXAQ7QKvcxc

Many thanks for your feedback. It's really appreciated. Until this idea is implemented, please note that with the native Python support introduced in 10.7, you can access web services via Python data functions.

I think supporting Rest API could open Spotfire to a whole world of things like third party apps.

I've been asking this from them for years. Tableau has a Web Data Connector - easy peasy in comparison. Qlik has a REST Connector. Amazing that TIBCO does not, and they were first in this regard. Having to use something like ADS / Composite is overkill for a web service. We need something simple and direct - not additional layers of complexity or additional coding.

We need a self-service web service data connection. Not more complexity.
