Customers have user scenarios in which Spotfire Analyst users have access to analysis files but should only be able to open them in Web Player. The issue is that one wants to give users quick access to analysis files that have row-level security. They want to be able to use Scheduled Updates on Web Player and pre-load the larger dataset and then match that with a row-level table when a user logs in. This is supported in Web Player and works great.
The issue is that there are users that have Spotfire Analyst that need access to these files but should only have access to the files in Web Player. If a user has access to a file and is an Analyst user, the user can open the file in Spotfire Analyst and edit and see other data. Spotfire has no permissions that states "Web Player Only."
A short-term fix that doesn't seem to affect much would be to add a "Web Player Only" permission, thus when a user that has Web Player Only permission on a folder tries to open a file in Analyst, the file would fail to open and give a warning, e.g. "You have access to this file, but you can only open it in Web Player." A longer term fix would add more granular access control, e.g. have a "read-only" mode in Spotfire for which a user could open an analysis file in Spotfire Analyst but not be allowed to edit that analysis (not have access to any menu items that would allow one to change scripts or see secure data).
