Run TERR data functions via Web Player without using Statistics Services (TSSS).
Implemented in | 10.0 |
TERR can now be deployed and managed as a node service similar to Automation Services and the Web Player within the Spotfire Server environment. The new TERR Service is included as a separate downloadable package in the TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services distribution. For details see The TIBCO Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition.
You still need a Statistics Services license, but you don't need to install the TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services Server. The new TERR as a service can be deployed to one or more nodes within the Spotfire Server environment. This means that it is included in the trusted environment which simplifies SSO. Monitoring can be done from within the Spotfire Server admin and it is possible to upgrade the TERR Service and add new packages from the Spotfire Server admin deployment manager.
Documentation is clear as mud. Could you guys elaborate on how TERR Service is addressing "Run TERR data functions via Web Player without using Statistics Services (TSSS)."
Thanks for the feedback. While it is on the roadmap to (architecturally) make Statistics Services available as a Node in the Spotfire topology, so that customers can have the benefits of centralized admin, SSO, etc., we still plan to keep the packaging and pricing separate (as we currently do for other Spotfire services, such as Automation Services). However, we will consider the suggestion, as explore integrating future Data Science capabilities from products such as Statistica and Alpine Data.
If definitely on roadmap, then why not make TSSS a free download to existing and newly licensed spotfire server customers starting 1/1/2018. As what works on the client should work on the webplayer is also on the architecture roadmap, I only see it harming TIBCO to continue to require a paid separate license for TSSS from the paid Spotfire Server licensing. You are handicapping the product to the machine learning and data science community unnecessarily by holding webplayer deployment hostage to a TSSS license.
Please support my idea of replacing TERR with open source R https://ideas.tibco.com/ideas/TS-I-6178
No timeline yet, but this is definitely on our roadmap
Curious if there's any timeline for making Statistics Services available as a Node service like Web Player and Automation Services in 7.5+
Should also apply to expression functions, not only data functions. Alternatively allow expression functions to use open-source R so they can be used on the web player together with a stats server running open-source R
As far as I know TSS is not yet available in 7.5 or 7.6 but should come soon.
It can be a node on 7.5 / 7.6 version.
