Azure Analysis Services Authentication Support OAuth2

Currently, the Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services / Microsoft Azure Analysis Services connector only supports authentication methods: Windows authentication OR Username and password.


The (now deprecated) Custom Spotfire® Connector to Azure SQL v12 supported authentication using Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure Active Directory) Token Authentication. This meets OAuth2 requirements.


The existing Microsoft Azure SQL Database connector uses an SQL endpoint for connection. While this connector supports Entra ID, it does not properly expose features like measures created from semantic models. Hence, the capability of a platform like Fabric is severely limited.
