By default, when creating a data table from a Data Connector, the default load method is always set to Keep Data External unless the Load method on the data connector has been set Imported Data Only
Similarly, when opening a data connector from the library in a new dxp, the data table is always opened in External data mode and the user has no opportunity to specify in memory table.
This often results in the user creating an External data table when this is not appropriate and then having to delete it and create an In memory table
As using external data should normally only be used with very large data sets and is not the preferred default, the default should be set to In-Memory for all data connections, or at a minimum there should be a Sytem preference to allow thee ability to set this
Hi Dave, Yes I’m aware of that but if this is left at the default of Allow All Methods, then by default Spotfire will use External data, or if a new Data connection is created from the open from Library option on the opening page then there is no option to select the load method and so External is used by default.
My preference would be to be able to set a system wide default as part of the system preferences, but the ability to set a default at the data source level to override the preference would also be a good idea
It is possible on each connection to set the default load method on each connection. Is this request to be able to set a default at the source level?
