Image rendering does update images from Web Player / Automation Services / Spotfire Analyst. As per this article, this is not the case. Web Player must be restarted or Spotfire Analyst must be closed and opened again.
I can understand the caching for some cases (huge files, stored outside LAN...), but one's expectation when a report is refreshed via Scheduled Updates is to update all the items of the reports, not only a part. Reports where background images are important then become useless as not showing accurate data.
