A 'Load only used fields' action that deselects all fields in data-sources that currently aren't used in an analysis.
When starting on a new analysis I am in the habit of loading all fields/columns a data source provides. To speed up data-loading though it is much more efficient to only load a subset of the fields that are available, those fields that are actively used in the analysis.
To select those fields manually once an analysis is finished is quite tedious and error prone to do manually. Spotfire though internally has a complete dependency graph so it would probably be quite doable to automate this. Therefor: could you provide a 'Load only used fields' action that prunes all fields from data source loading that aren't used in visualisations/expressions/...?
Thanks for a really great idea. Could be tricky to support all types of data sources and shared data access entities like information links and data connections.
I think that the snitisation should not be automatik, but offering a list of unused fields would be nice. That will allow the user to do a cleanup more easily, without the risk of overdoing based on some current perception of the needed data.
