need storage persist option for replacing data tables

Whenever I replace a data table the storage method always resets to "always new data". Can the previous setting be preserved across replacement? It's extra step to reset to the previous setting (if I can recall what it was), and is quite annoying. Can there be an option to set a default? thanks.
