Steps to reproduce:
1. Open a dataset in DXP and for the "Color By" property, choose a column that has more than 29 values
2. In the legend, only 29 colors show up
Expected:
That the user can choose to show more colors if they want - the use case from Paul:
I have a dataset with more than 29 separate chemical analytes - but only 29 show up in the legend. I constructed a trellis with Analytes as the Y-axis and Q_Sam_Date as the X-axis and want to look at a line graph for each well with a graph of each analyte in the well.
Implemented in | 12.0 |
Starting with Spotfire 12.0 LTS, the maximum number of values per legend item is increased to a default of 50 values (vs. 29 previously) and can be further increased.

In my previous comment I showed how to use a Treemap as a legend to exceed 29 values. If this becomes too cluttered, you can instead try using a Cross Table to create a "scrolling list" of legend items for unlimited values.
I have attached an illustration and posted a How-To on the TIBCO Community here: https://community.tibco.com/wiki/create-scrolling-legend-unlimited-items
You can use a Treemap as a legend for a temporary fix (see attached).
First create a treemap and choose "Size By > None". Then set "Heirarchy" to be your column to color by. Then set Color By to "First([YOUR COLUMN])" and set Color Mode to "Unique Values". Finally, set the color scheme to match your other visualization (wells, stations, etc).
I have just created this Community Article for Step-by-Step instructions: https://community.tibco.com/wiki/showing-more-29-values-chart-legend
TIBCO has NO IDEA how prevalent this issue is within the Oil & Gas Industry. Virtually EVERY SINGLE Spotfire user in our industry is looking at maps or production histories with hundreds (if not thousands) of wells -- where there are inevitably dozens of Operators. It is a juvenile flaw in Spotfire that will not allow a user to at least scroll down that list in the legend to be able to see the entire list -- instead of only 29. Crazy. This is the kind of thing that will allow Tableau to get their foot in the door to compete with TIBCO in this sector.
We need this, as well. We've got datasets with dozens of categorical values, and our users (understandably) want to know which color refers to which value. Scroll bars or smaller font sizes (as long as they're still legible) would both be fine for us.
This is greatly needed. I have a dataset with 50 stations, but only 29 stations show up in the "color by" legend. It would be nice to either force legend to display all, or allow the user to scroll through all the colors in the legend.
