Color scheme for large number categories in categorical variables

When coloring a visualization by a column with a large number of categories in a categorical variable in Spotfire, Spotfire assigns colors to them. It is difficult to use the legend to locate the colors, given the large number of colors present. It’d be nice to be able to easily sort the color order or legend items such that different shades of the same color appear in sequence. Report readers can identify the color of a category in the visualization, easily narrow down to the color with its few shades in the legend and find the category it represents.

Example (see attached image):

In TS-I-6190.png, there are many categories in the "Most distinctive causes of death" categorial variables. The colors are ordered by different shades/tones of a hue (e.g. brown - blue - green - purple - red). If the reader is interested in the data colored in some shade of blue in the visualization, he needs only to look for the blues in the legend (E, F, G, H) to find which category is represented. It would have been more difficult for him had the colors been jumbled up.
