In the latest mainstream version of Spotfire Server 12.3, RHEL 9 is supported for these services:
RHEL 9 is now supported as the operating system for:
• TIBCO Spotfire® Server
• TIBCO Spotfire® Web Player
• TIBCO Spotfire® Automation Services
• TIBCO Spotfire® Statistics Services
• TIBCO® Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition
• TIBCO Spotfire® Service for Python
However, only Spotfire Server supports RHEL 7,8 and 9.
Are there any plans to support the web player and other services on the older versions of RHEL(like 7,8) or is there a limitation?
If it is planned to be supported for older RHEL versions, when is that expected to be released for the LTS versions?
Our customers are dependent on using RHEL 7 and 8.
Hi Luke,
We believe that customers upgrading to Spotfire 12 will do it in a fresh installed OS, using the latest stable version available (e.g. RHEL9, Ubuntu 22.04, etc), for security, maintenance and improved performance.
RHEL9 was released on 2022-05-18 and it will have 5y full support + 5y maintenance support.
On the other hand, RHEL7 and RHEL8 have been around for some time, and it will be extremely difficult to provide support for the incoming .NET 8, and newer Python libraries in those distro releases.
For more information, see https://access.redhat.com/support/policy/updates/errata/.
May I ask you why would you/your customers prefer to use RHEL7/RHEL8 instead of RHEL9 (it is March 2023, so I guess RHEL9 is already approved for usage on any small or large Enterprise)?
Thanks
