Allow user control of line chart x and y axis delineation of major grid lines Merged

As an engineer in the oil & gas industry, I am used to seeing line charts of historical production trends on a logarithmic scale. What Spotfire does not allow if for me to determine the frequency of gridlines: on the value axis and the start value for the categorical axis. I would like to be able to say I want this chart to draw major gridlines at the following frequency and minor gridlines on a different frequency so that the default, dynamic y axis in log scale stays constant. For example, a log scale with major grid lines at 100, 1000, 10000, 100,000 and 10 minor grids between each major. This will increase legibility for production charts and allow for more rapid interpretation of data to our users. I also would like to manually control the start and end date on a categorical date x-axis to plot only within a start and end period with gridlines on a certain scale: monthly, yearly etc. That will allow me to at a glance notice how many periods are being plotted at various inflection points on the line.
