Log Grid Lines - minor grid lines and Log10 scale labels

We need more control over how grid lines displayed on graphs. For example, in EXCEL you have major and minor grid lines and complete control over how they display. I want to have a Log10 scale graph that shows the normal Log10 scale, but Spotfire skips numbers in the log scale so it only displays the lines 1,4,10,40,100 instead of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,20,30...

I want to see all the lines as points of reference even if the graph only displays the value 1,10,100,1000 on the major grid lines axis. The solution would be the equivalent of EXCEL's minor grid lines. I attached semi log graph showing the display lines expected in the technical world.

    @Scott, in Excel you can set up a table similar to the attached (using Dates instead of DOL if you'd like). Then add this as a data table and within Spotfire / Visualization Properties / Lines & Curves, add a Horizontal Line --> Line from Data table. I prefer to add one for Major and one for Minor so that I can assign different attributes to them (i.e., Major is black and Minor is gray). Hope this helps!

    Patrick Slaughter. The Ruth.ai hack works well with one set of data, but with multiple curves, it draws separate P10/P90 for each curve. Any idea how to set same fixed scaling for each?

    Elizabeth Hall, I would very much like to see details. I would not use in Access, but the idea may work with Excel file, or SQL db, or combination.

    I figured out a way to do this in Access so that you only need to have one horizontal line for Major and one for Minor, pointing to a data table, instead of having to set up each one individually. The end result is a table with an instance of Days Online, Major, and Minor for as many permutations of the three that you have. Let me know if anyone wants more details.

    While they are working on this I did see a good hack by Ruths.AI to achieve this. You can insert a line for every major and minor log line you want to show in the Lines and Curves section and then you can make the axis appear as 1,10,100, etc. by limiting the number of axis labels to 5-10 (or you could turn the individual line labels on, but they show up on the right side of the graph instead of in the axis range). This gives you the log plot shown in the photo and you can change the thickness of the lines to create major and minor grid lines. It's a good workaround in the meantime, it is just a little tedious to make the 40 lines the first time.

    ditto Robert Walker's comments re: axis label for the Major gridlines only, as well as a weight difference between major & minor. This would make many a change-resistant engineer into a Spotfire convert...

    It would also be help to have control over the number of periods/major grid lines to be displayed.  

    Axis label for Major and No axis label for Minor gridlines.

    Line weight difference between major / minor would be nice.
