current work around is to show cross table with Total Sum screen and then place another cross table with no months and custom expression to roll up the calculations to a monthly sum and taking the average of it; scrunch the column widths to their max (still display junk) to show the Average of the monthly sums. The display shows the required information, but the screen looks clunky and very un-professional. It makes it difficult to challenge outputs that come from Excel and Power Bi and Business Objects.
