Scatterplots support categorical data on both the x and the y-axis by placing the categories evenly spaced along the axis even though both are continuous by nature. It would be great if size by and rotate by worked the same way. That would make it possible to use e.g. size by subset to make marked markers pop by making them bigger than un-marked markers as described in TS-I-9178.
