What's New

Summary

Spotfire 14.2 delivers a robust set of new capabilities aimed at improving every stage of your data journey, from connecting to diverse data sources to crafting sophisticated analytical applications and managing your Spotfire environment. This release focuses on enhancing usability, expanding connectivity, and providing more granular control for both end-users and platform administrators.

Visual Data Science

Spotfire's core strength lies in its ability to transform complex data into actionable insights through powerful visualizations and advanced analytics. This release introduces features that streamline data preparation and visualization authoring, enabling deeper exploration and understanding.

Simplified Data Table Relations with Relations Overview

The new Relations overview within the Spotfire data canvas provides a clear, visual graph of how different data tables are related. This intuitive interface allows users to easily see and configure relationships between datasets. It also supports defining relations using multiple column pairs, offering greater flexibility and precision.

For engineers and scientists dealing with disparate datasets, understanding and managing data relationships is crucial for accurate analysis. This feature simplifies the process of integrating data from various sources, reducing the likelihood of errors and accelerating the preparation phase of visual data science projects. It empowers users to quickly build a coherent data model, leading to more reliable and insightful analytical applications.

Enhanced Visualization Authoring Experience

Spotfire 14.2 refines the visualization authoring experience (currently in preview) with new properties and appearance cards. This update ensures that the panel only displays properties relevant to the selected visualization, providing a cleaner and more focused design environment.

Analysts, engineers, and scientists can now create and customize visualizations more efficiently. The streamlined interface reduces clutter and guides users to the most pertinent settings, accelerating the creation of compelling and informative dashboards. This enhancement allows for faster iteration and refinement of visual analyses, translating raw data into clear, impactful stories that drive decision-making

Automation and Customization

Spotfire's extensibility is key for organizations that need to tailor the platform to their specific workflows and integrate it with existing systems. This release enhances API functionalities, offering developers and advanced users more power to automate tasks and customize their Spotfire solutions.

Expanded Information Model and License Management REST APIs

The Information Model REST API now supports updating and redirecting information model elements, providing programmatic control over Spotfire's metadata layer. Additionally, the License Management REST API has been enhanced to allow listing licenses and license functions, as well as getting and removing licenses for specific groups and users. The SCIM API also now supports attribute filtering for more precise user and group management.

For developers and platform administrators, these API enhancements are invaluable. The ability to programmatically manage information models allows for greater automation in content deployment and updates, ensuring consistency and reducing manual effort. Improved license management via API enables more efficient provisioning and de-provisioning of Spotfire access, critical for large organizations. The SCIM API's attribute filtering streamlines user synchronization, improving the efficiency of identity management and ensuring that Spotfire integrates seamlessly with existing IT infrastructure.

Platform Management

Robust platform management is essential for maintaining a secure, performant, and scalable Spotfire environment. Spotfire 14.2 introduces updates that enhance data connectivity, administrative control, and infrastructure support.

Broader Cloud and Database Connectivity

Spotfire 14.2 expands its data access capabilities by introducing connections to Azure SQL Database and Azure Synapse Analytics with Single Sign-On (SSO) and personalized login using OpenID Connect and OAuth 2.0. The Connector for SQL Server now supports custom connection properties, allowing for fine-tuned data source or driver-specific settings. Furthermore, when connected to a TIBCO Data Virtualization instance, the "view details" panel now conveniently lists available columns for a table. On the infrastructure side, Spotfire now supports PostgreSQL 16 and Oracle Database 23c as the Spotfire database, and Google Cloud Storage as an external file storage option for the Spotfire Library.

These enhancements are crucial for platform administrators and IT teams. Expanded Azure connectivity with SSO simplifies secure data access for cloud-first organizations, while custom SQL Server properties offer greater flexibility for specific database configurations. The improved visibility into TIBCO Data Virtualization tables accelerates data discovery. Support for the latest versions of PostgreSQL and Oracle Database ensures that Spotfire can leverage the most current and performant database technologies. The addition of Google Cloud Storage support provides more choices for scalable and cost-effective library storage, enabling organizations to align Spotfire with their cloud strategy and ensure high availability of analytical content.

Web-Based Library Folder Permissions Management

Spotfire 14.2 now allows administrators to manage library folder permissions directly from the web user interface. This brings the same comprehensive permission operations previously available only in the installed Spotfire client to a more accessible web environment.

This feature significantly streamlines the administrative workload for Spotfire platform managers. Managing content access and security is a critical task, and having these capabilities available via the web UI improves efficiency and flexibility. Administrators can now maintain consistent and secure access control without needing to rely solely on the installed client, making platform management more agile and responsive to organizational needs.
