This requirement is about how to terminate the long-running job rather than “cancel” button. (sometimes, cancel button is to disappear functional foam/dialog) Mostly, the long-running jobs(like report/retrieval) make Spotfire hang up, and users can’t do anything in Spotfire completely. So, this ticket is to ask for a function stopping those long-running jobs.

Yes, possible to do it in the custom export or custom data sources export using the progress bar cancel button (similar to the retrieval window) PDF tools.
We need TIBCO to provide a "global" way to cancel the current operation so we can add it to our custom tools as well.

could it be when using custom export or custom data sources? Because when opening large files or exporting data or exporting to PDF I do see cancel buttons.

Sure, such as exporting big reports or retrieving a big data that might hang up the software for a long time, at this point we don't have any way to stop this heavy processes.
Anas, thanks for contributing your idea. In general Spotfire does allow the user to cancel operations that can take long time. Do you have specific examples of operations that do not allow the user to cancel but does potentially take long time?
