Provide a built-in scheduler in the Automation Services dialog so that administrators don´t have to go to another system that they most likely will not have access to; in order to get the OS Scheduler to launch their Automation Services job.
Implemented in | 10.0 |
A scheduler for Automation Services is now included in the Spotfire Server Administration. For details see Automation Services Job Scheduling.
This feature has been released with Spotfire X.
I welcome any feedback on the feature for further improvements.

I think this is only partially implemented as the schedule is only available to a time, not week or month.
We need ability to schedule flexible execution.
Indeed, and would like to be able to create schedule rules and associate multiple automation jobs to one schedule that can be changed once rather than needing to change multiple scheduled jobs. We had one windows task that would sequence 20+ automation reports.
After adding the monthly option and other enhancements, It will also be nice to have sample script to migrate existing scheduled jobs from windows task scheduler to the new spotfire scheduler
There needs to be a monthly scheduling option.
You'll need to save the job to the library in order to create a schedule for it.
When saving the job in the library for the first time, you'll be given a link to the adminUI to create a schedule for it
If it's an existing job in the library, from the job builder, click on Tools > Manage Job schedule to create a schedule for the job.
@Julie Sebby, it is placed in the Spotfire administration interface under Automation Services.
Can you please provide details on where this was implemented. I don't see it anywhere in the job builder.
Can you tell me where this is at. I don't see it.
Hi everyone,
This feature has been released with Spotfire X, which went GA last week.
I welcome any feedback on the feature for further improvements.
Thanks,

@Christian Turri,
Thanks for providing feedback and always providing useful information on the idea portal. This is a feature that we are working on getting to everyone soon.
Thanks,
Natalie
@Christian Turri, good point, but I would expect that an API was an added option. Creating your own app comes at a cost, and you already have a scheduler service going in Spotfire Server for updating analysis; and yes, that analysis can tricker an update using the API, right. But the complexity makes it self-service for the expert, the guys who know Spotfire to bits, but that is not the spirit of a self-service visual analytics platform - this stuff should be easy, and only then is it tremendously powerful.
Agree with Charlie on this one. Our users have already moved to PowerBI for mobile because Spotfire mobile was too difficult and not user friendly. PowerBI is starting to be used more for scheduled reports. We just got automation services, and I'm trying to make it work. I'm the Spotfire Admin and even I have to go to IT to get our Active Batch team involved. Every single modification requires a ticket.
Hi while I agree that this should be added to the product, there is now an Automation Services REST API in v7.13:
https://docs.tibco.com/pub/spotfire_server/7.13.0/doc/api/TIB_sfire_server_REST_API_Reference/index.html?_ga=2.197489194.441866538.1530518115-609898604.1520873725&_gac=1.137699844.1530022865.EAIaIQobChMIrPa3qMPx2wIVkMCyCh2R7w97EAAYASAAEgKZ9_D_BwE
This should allow any dedicated Spotfire Integrator to develop their own front end to submit scheduled Automation Services jobs. We have done a similar thing ourselves. We basically save the jobs to a database and then have a scheduler which checks the job's schedule and submits the Automation Services job via the REST API.
For Natalie Fisher: the thing that is missing here is a GUI for Spotfire users and administrators to be able to add/update/delete Automation Services jobs that run on a schedule. Similar to what the Scheduling & Routing screen provides for Scheduled Updates but for Automation Services jobs. In fact this screen seems like a perfect fit since the existing Rules saved schedules could easily be shared with a new Automation Services jobs section.
This is a big hurdle for adoption by many of my users; getting the library/system admins involved every time a report needs to be scheduled is a pain. Yes, scheduled static pdf and Excel reports are still a thing that people want. And if they don't get it with Spotfire, they go to PowerBI, OBIEE, etc. Grow your platform by executing the basics better.
They are using Task Scheduler to schedule automation jobs, regular users don't have access and IT needs to be involved in each job. Currently 2 IT engineers are supporting Spotfire, current support model at customer will not work if they want to use Automation services regularly with windows scheduler. Provided feedback to Natalie Fisher.
Hi Younes,
Right now we are in the discovery and exploratory phase. I've been meeting with people to understand their use cases and wants. In regards to when it will be released, we will prioritize it, but there is no exact date.
Thanks,
Natalie
Hello everyone,
I'm posting a comment to know when will this option (scheduler in automation services) be available ? Do you have any idea ?
Best regards,
I would like to participate in the meeting and provide feedback.
Thanks,
Anita Kalidoss
We would also like to be involved in providing feedback. Please include our email as well. Thank you.
Hi everyone,
Thanks for your responses. I will send out an email by Friday for scheduling.
Thanks,
Natalie
