Sort within a hierarchy

When a hierarchy is used in a bar chart category axis, and then the bars are sorted by value it sorts all the bars by absolute value, without any consideration for the hierarchy. This is not ideal as the reason for setting-up the hierarchy at times is to allow for multiple levels of sorting based on hierarchy.

For example if the Category (X) axis was a Hierarchy of State and City, and Y-axis was say Average Income. When you sort the bar chart and you zoomed to the state level then you should see all states sorted by average income, but if you zoom to the city level you should have the option of seeing the sorting of top income cities by state, instead of sorting all the cities in the US by average income (regardless of which state they belong).

For sorting bar charts (or similar charts), whose category axis is hierarchy, there should be an option of sort within hierarchy.

See here for https://ideas.tibco.com/ideas/SPF-I-183 for sorting in cross tables.

Interestingly in cross tables you can sort within a category (default) or across all values (ignoring hierarchy).

I would like have capability for bar charts. I would like to sort bars by value within category of a hierarchy. Spotfire currently is only able to sort bars by value across all categories.

See attachements for screenshot from Spotfire and Tableau and some simple data.
