Almost all visualizations allow expressions and display names for column names. Even though Table visualization allows user to select columns it does not allow him/her to enter separate display name for every column. Instead, Spotfire manual suggests renaming columns through column properties. Given that nearly all other visualizations allow user to specify a Display name, there's rarely a need to change column properties for any reason other than table visualization.
There are a couple of reasons why changing column name in column properties is a bad idea:
1) allows only one name per column in an analysis type. User might want to call a column in a table slightly differently, depending on the page context
2) once renamed, new "human-readable" name is used everywhere in expressions, transformations, etc. This is really difficult to troubleshoot, as sometimes names get long and use special symbols. As a result, formulas become bulky and difficult to edit
3) when data table is replaced (using Replace Data Table functionality) column renaming can be gone together with old table, so the newly brought datatable might have the same external names, but because renaming information is gone, all expressions will resolve to error.

I do not think this has been implemented yet, has it? Please add this update to Spotfire ASAP! It would be extremely useful.
I think 10 votes is way to little for TIBCO to consider this idea seriously.
The workaround is to create a data table by yourself in TextArea with an html code dynamically changed by IronPython script. Found it here: http://tainguyen.me/blog/spotfire-populate-data-table-into-text-area-with-html-format/
Hi Dmitro, nice to see you here. I have moved to Spotfire too, and fully agree with your suggestion.
Could this please be prioritized in the coming releases. It is really frustrating not being able to add labels to column names per visualization.
