Under file there should be a way to either directly browse to open either from the Library or from your desktop as there was in the previous versions. It is time consuming and very irritating to have to close the application you are working on in order to open items in the Analyst.

Ok, I had since figured out how to do this. However, not having this option in the file menu is counter intuitive because every other software package on the planet has an open menu under file. I asked 3 non-Spotfire users where they thought you would go to open a file and their response was under file. It is just instinct and common practice for this to be located in a file menu because you are opening a file.
Thanks, Niklas!
Jennifer - as I understand your comment is about the ability to see the full file name in the browse library part of the + menu, please consider voting for this Idea: https://ideas.tibco.com/ideas/TS-I-6964
You can browse the library by clicking the +, but if your file names are longer than 24 characters you will have to hover over every single name to see what it is. There needs to be a way to expand this view to see the whole file name easier. Or ideally, bring back the File->Open menu option and Open from Library window.
Mike, by clicking the + you can browse for a file on your disk or in the library. See attached screenshot.
