Publish to Library - need "open in Analyst" (no download) option and ability to configure links and email message

The Publish to Library dialog is missing an important option to launch the Analyst client with the dxp file, without downloading it from the library. Currently the two options are to download it from the Library (though it does not say that), or open it in the Web Player. Downloading the file for the Analyst causes a copy of the file to be made, with no link back to the original version in the Library. This is dangerous - users relying on Spotfire for decision support might actually be working with different files. Folders already have permissions available to limit modification. Regardless of the level of parity between Analyst and web clients, some users, especially data scientists, will need to use the Analyst client, and creating copies of the original is not always the right thing to do. There needs to be more support for the various options.

The P2L dialog is not configurable - neither the URLs nor the text content of the email message that is created from the dialog. There should be a template to allow the administrator to customize the email content and links as appropriate for the business rules that govern their Spotfire environment.

At a minimum, the Publish to Library feature / dialog needs to be updated, to be configurable with the following options (show/hide):

  • download to local folder
  • launch Analyst with file from Library (do not download file)
  • open Web Player URL in browser

There should be a template to allow the Administrator to customize the email text.

thank you,

This has been fixed in Spotfire 10.3 LTS

Note that there was a subsequent fix in Spotfire 10.3.2. Depending on your environment you may need to use this version of Spotfire for the fix to be effective.

The configuration for Publish to Library, and for the Send Email should entail:

    1. Whether or not to open from library (no download) or download a copy, and be explicit about it.

    2. Whether or not to show or hide the links for the Analyst or Web Clients

    3. Whether or not to use a file path or guid to reach the file – this is another limitation that should be addresses here. People tend to send links to the WP over email, and the link uses the file path. There is no way to edit the link. Then when the file moves to a different folder (happens more often than you think), or the server URL changes (happens more often than you think), the link to the file is broken. This is a maintenance nightmare.
    Happy to discuss further.
