When using the Analyst Client, you can see all the user preferences via the help menu.
When using Automation Services Jobs, or Scheduled Updates, the you can only guess.
The ability to run some IronPython script to populate a table with user preferences, that then get stored (or embedded), will allow support staff to see what preferences were available. This helps speed up diagnosis of these type of configuration problems.
This idea could also be expanded to include other diagnostic information, if required.
Thank you Simon, yes that helps.
Hi Niklas,
A concrete example, would be verifying what preferences an Automation Services Job gets when run via the server.
Or the same for Scheduled Updates, because users often don't fully understand the user that was running the job.
The table should contain the same information as seen in the Analyst Client's, Help -> Support diagnostic & Logging -> Preferences tab. How the script gets the preferences and generates the table, is down to you. A sample DXP could be created and shared, that only runs the process on load once. So that a snapshot of the preferences (and maybe other helpful diagnostic information) can be stored in the table (or tables).
Does the help?
Hi Simon, many thanks for contributing to the Idea portal. for this Idea, would it be possible to describe a concrete example of what you would like to use it for, to make sure we understand your idea the right way?
