A data table that is visualized in Spotfire could have been created using a long chain of data import and transformation steps. A table may have been created from other tables using a R data function or through operations such as pivoting and unpivoting. Rows or columns may have been added to it from other tables or from external sources. New columns may have been added through calculations or through any of the built in predictive analytics tools that Spotfires's offer.
As an analyst I would like to be able to change any of the downstream transformation steps behind a table without having to re-do my entire analysis in order to save time and make it easier to re-use the whole or part of my analysis for similar problems.

With Spotfire 7.9 data transformations are now editable! This has been the number one request from you for a long time and I'm proud to inform you that this is now possible. We are working hard on making all data wrangling actions editable and this is a big step forward towards that goal. Our plan now is to continue to make data sources replaceable and editable. Therefor I have moved that capability to a new Idea and I really encourage you to keep voting for the new Idea here https://ideas.tibco.com/ideas/TS-I-5768!
Please see the separate ideas for these capabilities:
1) How do I edit the data source for a step in the flow diagram?
https://ideas.tibco.com/ideas/TS-I-5768
and replace a data source: https://ideas.tibco.com/ideas/TS-I-5730
2) How do I insert something into the middle of the flow?
https://ideas.tibco.com/ideas/TS-I-6063
Would you be able to edit the Add Rows origin column name and data in the Edit Add Rows UI, see attachment?
Prior Comment didn't have the file attached!
Hi All,
It would be great to be able to edit the highlighted field. If a mistake is made, you have to repeat the whole process of building the table.

Hi All,
Perhaps I'm missing something, but I haven't figured out how to do things that I would consider crucial in the concept of editing data transformations.
1) How do I edit the data source for a step in the flow diagram?
2) How do I insert something into the middle of the flow?
In the attached screenshots, the blue arrow marks where I wish the new data table could go... the yellow shows the only place the new data table can go.
Is there a way to do these edits? If not, please continue upgrading this feature, as it doesn't really have more functionality compared to the prior "Refresh Data Table with Prompt" process.

I saw that it was eval yesterday and today and have been getting lots of messages related to security updates and new releases of everything else including hotfixes prior to that. I think the updates are buggy. In the past I didn’t get them for quite a while.

@JP Lee - it was released today (May 12)
And when will 7.9 be released?
thanks.

Thanks for implementing this TIBCO - going to make my life so much easier!
Thank you Thomas
It was great to see you in Zeist. Let’s meet again next month in Berlin!
This is somewhat possible today by creating "copies" of data tables using the Add Data Table > From Current Analysis option. This should still be easier within the tool though than having to create this "copies" of data tables.
See the wiki page below for details.

Version 7.7 and later versions offer editing matching columns when inserting rows. This has made this feature very usefull while I was avoiding using it in previous versions. Similar feature should be applied at least for insert columns feature.
Ideally, (in my opinion), this would leverage the nice new graphical layout for these dataflows in the Data tool, such that the editing operations would be directly in the context of the pipeline.
Yes Please! I've been asking for this for many years now. Nothing is more frustrating than having to reinvent the wheel because life is not a rigid, predictable sequence of steps. I am not interested in a visual workflow, because it's linear, and what would we gain from the visualization of the sequence of steps that we don;t get in a selectable list?
This should especially also include a possibility to delete transformation steps, not only adding or editing steps.
More control over "insert rows-column" - joins etc. within Spotfire would be useful. Such as being able to rerun the setup if you by mistake set the wrong column to join on, it would be good to be able to rerun and reselect the columns or change the join type etc.
Please add this feature! I currently hack this by deleting, renaming, or disconnecting from the source data, then open the file and use the "Missing File" dialogue to re-point to new data. I actually have end users do this! Even a simple menu option that brings up the missing file dialogue would be a huge improvement.
